The sculpture exhibition of Jindřich Zeithamml will present the work of an artist who strives to transcend the personal level of artistic creation. Zeithamml's installation within the architecture of the Benedikt Rejt Gallery building creates a space where harmony takes the lead.

JINDŘICH ZEITHAMML (1949, Teplice) is an important representative of contemporary Czech sculpture who is also known internationally. He was expelled from Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts in 1968 and emigrated to Germany via Italy in 1972. In 1976–1882, he studied under Professor Norbert Kricke at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He returned to the Czech Republic in the 1990s and in 1995–2016 headed the Sculpture 2 studio at the Academy of Fine Arts.

His abstract work is founded on the basic geometric shapes of the square and the circle: “I work with the circle and the square; or, better said, with the path from circle to square and, conversely, from square to circle. I work with the relationships between inside and outside; simply, with transformation.”

For Zeithamml, the material, or rather its essence, is important as well. He often covers the surface of his sculptures with gold and silver leaf, and the presence of such high-class materials is of fundamental importance. What is above is also below; Zeithamml’s work offers clear matter-spirit parallels. The unconditional pursuit of transcendence through continually revealed principles of harmony allows him to consciously participate in the cosmic game – within the appropriate limits of human existence here and now on Earth, of course.
